The Gilroy Workshop

The Gilroy Workshop is August 3-4 and 9-11, 2024 at the Gilroy (CA) Rodeo

The Flagship

Three days of shooting. Full access. Beautiful Light.

From night action under floodlights to shocking sunsets, there are opportunities to use every technique and piece of gear in your arsenal. Access to shoot from nearly anywhere means no hassles or wasted energy, just the space to learn and do great work. An hour-long video critique after the workshop closes the loop on the experience.

The Process

Shoot. Review. Submit. Critique. Repeat.

There is no magic wand, but there are magic circumstances in which to learn. Across three days, we will shoot all of the rodeo-related events. Meet other photographers who share your passion and commitment in a situation dedicated to learning how to make the best pictures you can make.

Daily critiques provide an opportunity to improve day-by-day, accelerating learning and correcting mistakes in real time.

The Critique Videos

After the workshop, students submit a representative sample of their pictures. I provide a hour-long video critique breaking down each picture and talking about next steps. Taken together, these critique videos bring home the lessons, and are a great resource for all of the students because you never know how the “A-HA!” moment will appear.
